The Pinnacles Desert and Cervantes in Western Australia

The truly remarkable Pinnacles Desert is situated just outside the small town of Cervantes on the coast of Western Australia.  Cervantes is a couple of hundred kilometres north of Perth and was founded primarily as a cray fishing town. Tourism is now also one of the biggest industries in the town, and there is a variety of tourist accommodation on offer.  Cervantes has beautiful silver sand beaches, where you can walk for miles without meeting another soul.  Just outside Cervantes there is also Lake Thetis, which contains the very rare stromatolites, which are one of the earliest forms of life to develop on earth.

But is fair to say that most tourists come to see the fascinating Pinnacles Desert.  The Pinnacles are limestone structures that stick up out of the ground, and have been formed into lots of crazy shapes. The best times to view the Pinnacles are at Sunrise and Sunset, when the shadows can create fantastic patterns in the sand.

So read on to find out more about Cervantes and the Pinnacles Desert
